Amerigo Vespucci, the man behind the discovery of America, gave us the city of Salvador de Bahia. In the year 1501, he arrived in Brazil. He then named the city as Bay of All Saints, as it was the 1st of November, 1501, and the day being day of all saints. The city of Salvador de Bahia came to existence in the year 1549, and was the capital of Brazil. The city happened to be Brazil's first capital. Today it is the capital city of the state of Bahai. Salvador de Bahia is known for its relaxed population and carnivals, including the famous Brazilian street carnivals. It is one of the oldest cities of Brazil.
